Purpose & Philosophy for Stepping Stones in Kamas
Stepping Stones in Kamas strives to meet the needs of the families of Summit County by:
- Providing a developmentally appropriate, discovery-learning environment that meets the needs of every child’s healthy cognitive, language, motor, social, and emotional development.
- Providing supportive parenting guidance to every family enrolled in the center.
Stepping Stones in Kamas practices the Montessori Method which teaches kids to be more independent. We also use the Creative Curriculum in which the basic foundation for this method is, “children learn by doing.” As teachers, we support children in this hands-on learning by providing encouragement, staging the environment and providing ample opportunities for creative expression.
Components of a quality program include:
- The appropriateness of the program with regard to children’s developmental stages, culture, individual development and characteristics.
- Responsiveness of the environment to children’s and family’s individual needs and preferences.
- The way in which staff interact with children and families.
- The nature of the curriculum and how it is implemented.
Casey
Casey was born and raised in Park City, Utah and after graduating high school, she spent 15 years traveling as a massage therapist. She began her journey as an early childhood caregiver when her first son was born in November of 2014 where she worked at Vail Childcare Center in Vail, Colorado. While taking courses to earn her bachelors in business, she was able earn her Early Childhood Certificate. When Casey moved back to Utah in 2017, she worked as the administrator at a private Montessori school in Park City. This is where her love for the Montessori method began. She went to Montessori conferences and studied through books and online. She founded Stepping Stones in Kamas in August 2018 to give her boys the best early childhood education in the area. Casey’s love for teaching and caring for kids shows through her continued education with training and different conferences around the area.
